Crazy Arizona weather

It's cold and raining like crazy with flood warnings and even a tornado warning last night.

On Wednesday it was chilly but nice and my granddaughter and I went out around the gardens and I thought I'd share a few photos with you on this grey and dreary Friday night.

This first photo is just random oriental veggies, flowers, garlic and onions growing in the garden. You can see the drip lines all need taken out and realligned but we don't water out there this time of year at all. This is from the main producing tomato plant right now. We picked five small to medium ones on Wednesday which Morgan quickly ate. It seems like the statice is blooming early this year. I only have two plants because it normally doesn't do well but I think I might have been planting it too late in the season. Just a photo of one of the out of control herb garden. The other bed is cut back to the ground. It holds scented geraniums and pepper plants. Morgan and two oranges we picked from the neighbors tree overhanging our back wall. This is the wall where we moved the antique yellow rose to. Still haven't mounted the iron wheel on the wall. See the windows cut into the wall. I am most proud of this idea in our backyard. Our original yard was through these windows. When we bought the abandoned retention basin and turned it into a garden I wanted walls cut into the wall to visually connect the two areas. I think it turned out neat. Normally there are vines drooping down but my husband cuts things back pretty severely in the January. The very bare looking rose garden cut back for winter. The well in the center is drainage control for our cul de sac. We have flood irrigation in that part of the yard and that drain is flood control for the whole areas sewer drains. When the roses are not cut back you don't really see it. And this little door holds both the gas grill tank and the lopping and trimming saws. Our granddaughters wanted a bunny but our weiner dog, Oskar, would have made short work of a furry pet...so I painted them a chocolate bunny instead. Thanks for visiting my little January garden!

I hope you are cozy and warm where you are and dreaming of seed catalog orders!

Jenny

Just snuck (is that a word?) or sneaked? over here and looked at the whole page. Sweet little grand daughter! And how do you ever find the time to do all this, AND blog too? You're just amazing woman!! Keep it up (O:
Love that you can grow stuff now. I'm still in 2 feet of snow here. But then I don't have much of a green thumb. So I'll watch you and my envy will be green..haha

  9. Jenny what a wonderful place you have and little Morgan is a sweetie.

I just love that wall of yours with the windows in it. Love your rose garden area too and look forward to seeing pictures of it when everything is in full bloom.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I did a posting earlier this morning about that blue flower you were interested in, which is blue sage, eranthemum.

  11. What a wonderful garden! I love the pink wall! We are just starting to see our daffodils popping up from the ground and I saw a pink tree a couple of days ago so it looks like spring is springing.

    Have a nice weekend!

  12. Hi Jenny, Just popped in from Katie's Southern Kitchen. I must say, I've never had much luck with statice either. I've been thinking about trying it again this year. Of course, I will have to wait patiently for all this snow to melt.

Your grand-daughter is adorable. Oh what I wouldn't do to spend some time with my grandkids in the garden. Waiting patiently for April when I make my yearly visit to Idaho. (I'm in PA)

I've had a delightful visit in your garden. Thank you so much for sharing...
